Dr Richard Tiplady is an experienced mountaineer, having climbed over 200 Scottish Munros, over 40 of which were in full winter condition.

Richard is a qualified Mountain Leader and a member of the board of Mountain Training UK&Ireland. He has done night navigation and winter night navigation training with Mountaineering Scotland, along with other winter skills, winter navigation, winter climbing, and avalanche awareness courses. He leads night navigation and wild camping courses in the Ochil Hills and the Trossachs in Scotland, and offers organisational leadership development courses in the Scottish Highlands.
