Lesbian Island
Lesbian Island is a community for queer women within South London that organises weekly events and community gatherings with a lot of glitter, and a lot of passion.
The events vary from speed dating, pub quizzes, and game nights to burlesque shows and club nights. All of which are always focused around entertainment, cocktails, and affordability through using drink sponsorships to bring down venue drink prices! Bringing a bit of northern heart to London and open to all LGBTQ+ to enjoy.
Lesbian Island has a WhatsApp community with hundreds of members; within which you can find free community bonding groups - from hiking clubs to book clubs!
It all started in a tiki bar in Clapham, where Anna was the supervisor. Obsessed with creating cocktails (especially glittery ones, or ones on fire!), and being a performer, and a lesbian at that- she put her three favourite things together, and Lesbian Island was an instant success!
But going back even earlier than that; at 18 Anna was a bartender at a Lesbian Club called Vanilla in Manchester, and for the few years she worked there- she fell in love with her community and giving her people the best nights out possible. Moving to London, she was shocked at despite the amount of lesbian and queer events- the lack of socialising that would happen at them! Which meant there wasn’t much sense of a united queer female community. Not only that, but with the cost of living in London - especially for young women, being so extortionate - people were going out less and less. Lesbian Island to the rescue! Often with premium bespoke lesbian themed cocktails on sale for as little as £6.
Lesbian Island is currently pre-funding, and Anna the creator (or as we say, President of Lesbian Island), has lots of big dreams for where it can go. Currently there is nothing quite like Lesbian Island. There are plenty of Lesbian events but none that host weekly or as anywhere near as frequently and to such a high standard, which is why we have such a strong community of regulars (who we call Lesbian Islanders.) And our merchandise isn’t half bad too!
