Reconciliation Yorkton
Reconciliation Yorkton's members are committed to building better communities for all people based on the challenges and opportunities revealed by the Truth and Reconciliation process. Members have identified eight shared goals and guiding principles to guide this journey:
- Education : Provide educational opportunities in schools and in public to reflect historical and present-day realities of Indigenous Peoples.
- Culture : Foster reconnection to pride, identity, language, spirituality, oral tradition, etc.
- Relationships : Get to know each other by building authentic relationships. Overcome stereotypes and racism to find commonalities. Create safe spaces for healing of fractured relationships.
- Coordination and Communication : Work together to break down barriers.
- Healing : Remember the past. Acknowledge and begin to heal pain, improve mental health and break cycles.
- Inclusion and Advocacy : Encourage people to promote reconciliation and inclusion in the community. Equip people to manage conflicts that may arise from these conversations.
- Employment : Improve recruitment and retention of Indigenous People in the work force.
- Commitment: To each other as community members in doing this work and to the process of reconciliation as guided by the process.
