Centre for Sustainable Finance

The SOAS Centre for Sustainable Finance is dedicated to driving the transition to a low-carbon, equitable economy through interdisciplinary research and teaching. Established in 2019 and housed within the SOAS Department of Economics, the Centre serves as a global hub for thought leadership, fostering collaboration between academics, policymakers, and financial institutions.

The Centre works extensively with national and international partners, assisting central banks and financial supervisors worldwide—including in Albania, Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, China, the EU, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and the UK—on climate stress testing, disclosure frameworks, and sustainable finance strategies.

Recognised as a pioneer in capacity building, the Centre has led executive training programs for international organisations and commercial financial institutions on climate risk and sustainable finance. Additionally, it has developed courses on climate negotiations, climate finance, and sustainable investment for the UK FCDO and the UK Cabinet Office.

As part of its commitment to education, the Centre offers a master’s course on Green Finance, equipping future leaders with the tools and expertise needed to address climate-related financial risks and drive sustainable development.
