Surfrider Foundation Portugal is part of the wider network of Surfrider Foundation Europe (SFE), a collective of positive activists who take concrete action every day to pass on a preserved Ocean to future generations. Founded in 1990 in Biarritz by surfers driven by the desire to loudly and proudly advocate for the Ocean, SFE has since expanded its reach far beyond the Basque Coast. Today, it unites a network of volunteers and local groups across more than twelve European countries.

Over the years, through its expertise, SFE has become a leading organization in the fight against pollution and threats to marine and coastal environments. It conducts awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, and advocacy efforts to influence major environmental policies related to the Ocean.

SFE is also part of the international Surfrider Foundation network, which is active in seven other countries (United States, Canada, Argentina, Morocco, Senegal, Japan, Australia), thereby strengthening the impact and coherence of its actions on a global scale.
