WORKSHOP: Reimagining Landscapes with Nina Fraser

WORKSHOP: Reimagining Landscapes with Nina Fraser

R. Gomes Freire 161Lisboa, Lisboa
Wednesday, Apr 8 from 3 pm to 6 pm
Overview

Exploring landscape through the magazine as an object, you are invited to create a 3D collage that explores your own sense of place

In this hands-on workshop, participants will create their own layered landscape using the magazine as an object to explore as a literal sculptural form. Inspired by the idea that our experience of place is often incomplete and reconstructed, we’ll explore how fragmentation can become a powerful visual language.

Exploring landscape through a collage technique of décollage*, you are invited to create a three dimensional collage using the magazine spine as a base. Instead of adding fragments to the work, it will form through the subtraction of pages. Emphasis will be placed on contrast—between raw edges and calm scenes, disruption and harmony—and on trusting instinct over perfection.

The abstract landscape could reflect your own relationship to a significant place/location, but it can also spontaniously appear from the source material you are given. All materials and contextual information surrounding contemporary collage is provided.

Collage Working Club (CWC) is a weekly open workspace for artists working in the medium of paper. Organised in the format of alternate ‘drop in’ sessions and workshops masterclasses, it has both a regular facilitator, whilst also involving the artist community in the sharing of knowledge and skills. Providing materials, education and connections is the primary aim of CWC, and it will do this through the interdisciplinary art of collage as both an art form and a tool for personal growth.
