About this event

Objects making with paper machê part 1

Widely associated with the creation of decorative objects, the papier-mâché technique first appeared in China in the 2nd century BC. Its use served in the creation of Carnival masks in Venice, decorative objects, furniture, sculptures, and even in the construction of a church, in Norway (1793).

In this workshop we'll create a three-dimensional object using paper pulp recipe. Together we will prepare paper machê and learn basic application techniques to create a 3D project.

All materials are provided. No other preparation is necessary. Part 1 of 2 sessions, both can be attended individually.

Inês Teles (Évora, 1986) lives and works in Lisbon. She owns a PG-Dip. in Fine Art at Byam Shaw School of Arts, CSM and a MA in Painting at Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, with a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’ Scholarship. Currently, Teles is doing a PHD funded by FCT, to develop research named “Mutable materials, circular experimentation” (reference 2021.05411.BD.), as a collaborator of Vicarte Research Center, at the Sculpture Department at FBAUL.

Collage Working Club (CWC) is a weekly open workspace for artists working in the medium of paper. Organised in the format of alternate ‘drop in’ sessions and workshops masterclasses, it has both a regular facilitator, whilst also involving the artist community in the sharing of knowledge and skills. Providing materials, education and connections is the primary aim of CWC, and it will do this through the interdisciplinary art of collage as both an art form and a tool for personal growth.
