WORKSHOP - Indian Hand block printing technique with collage

WORKSHOP - Indian Hand block printing technique with collage

By Collage Working Club

Overview

A workshop that encourages playful printing to add to the joy of creating one’s own collage artwork

Hand block printing is a centuries-old art form in India where delicate designs are carved onto wooden blocks, dipped in natural dyes and stamped onto fabric or paper. The repetitive process of creating patterns becomes rhythmic and meditative. Prints will be created to make collage, combining them with handmade paper and other plain or printed materials.

The participants of the workshop will use original Indian blocks to explore the expressive potential of block printing on hand-made or tissue paper. After printing their own patterns using traditional wooden blocks, they will cut, layer, and assemble the prints into original artworks. The participants can explore personal storytelling by experimenting with composition, color and texture. By integrating the hand-printed designs into collages, they experience the transformation of a traditional craft into contemporary art. The workshop encourages playful printing to add to the joy of creating one’s own collage artwork.
