WORKSHOP: COLLAGE AND MIXED MEDIA Integrating collage and acrylic paint

Collage, as a language, encompasses various techniques and methods. When we add other materials to collage, we open up a world of possibilities. This workshop will address the integration of collage with acrylic paint, a very versatile material that allows you to work in a very free and intuitive way. Acrylic paint will be explored both to prepare the support on which we integrate the collage and to transform an image, modifying its colours, creating a new atmosphere or altering its meaning.

All materials for the exercises will be provided. No previous experience in painting or collage is necessary.

Letícia Barreto (b. 1974, Brazil) is a visual artist and art educator based in Lisbon, Portugal. She holds a Master’s in Visual Arts and Intermedia from Universidade de Évora and studied Fine Arts at the Lorenzo di Medici Institute in Florence with a Rotary Foundation scholarship. Barreto has exhibited internationally since 2000 in museums, galleries, cultural centers, and art fairs. Her creative journey spans multiple disciplines—including painting, drawing, photography, collage, and installation. She collaborates regularly with the Collage Working Club in Lisbon and other artistic and research initiatives. Letícia is the creator of Decollage Lab, an itinerant space for creative experimentation with collage and mixed media. Her style is characterized by the playful and poetic combination of painting and paper fragments, creating visual and conceptual analogies that reveal subtle connections, bridging personal experience, collective memory, and the ephemeral nature of human life.

Collage Working Club (CWC) is a weekly open workspace for artists working in the medium of paper. Organised in the format of alternate ‘drop in’ sessions and workshops masterclasses, it has both a regular facilitator, whilst also involving the artist community in the sharing of knowledge and skills. Providing materials, education and connections is the primary aim of CWC, and it will do this through the interdisciplinary art of collage as both an art form and a tool for personal growth.
