About this event

Following the success of our much talked about Foraging Course, we’ve now extended the workshop to a full day experience which includes a 3 course meal, cooking with fire, and foraging both at land and sea, as we personally guide you along the dramatic Atlantic coastline to seek-out and taste your own plate of seasonal edibles.

This all day gastronomic experience begins early as we explore the cliffs, beach and the private gardens of Quinta Kismet, demonstrating how to safely identify and respectfully harvest key marine and plant species that you’ll later use to create a delicious and nutritious foraged menu. The table is then set in our greenhouse overlooking the sea where together we’ll enjoy a long lunch, with an opportunity to try biodynamic wines and even dandelion root coffee.

Menu highlights include fire licked bannock bread, peppery nasturtium flower seeds pickled with wild fennel, a butter full of wild flowers that deliver the flavours of garlic and mustard, vibrant wild pesto, alongside nasturtium chips and freshly foraged mussels and percebes (goose barnacles).

Extra details:

With the larger tides provided by the full & new moons each month, we have extended acces to forage for wild food. We begin with an introduction covering safety, best practices and tips on identifying key species, the group will then seek out and respectfully harvest ingredients, before cooking and preparing a light lunch to enjoy together. Vegan options are also available.

Depending on seasonal availability the workshop will usually cover; rock samphire dandelion, nettle, nasturtium, wild carrot, wild leek, shrubby orach, mallow, fennel, mussels, goose barnacles (percebes), green purslane, common plantain, New Zealand spinach, and more.

This course is an introduction to foraging, focusing on local species, and is within the scope of our knowledge and seasonality, it is not an extensive course into the in-depth and multi-faceted world of foraging, and does not include mushrooms. Weather conditions and seasonal availability will dictate the specific menu on the day.
