What makes us feel connected to a place? Conversation about migration, belonging, restlessness, and identity.
Many people move to Lisbon looking for something: a different rhythm, a new beginning, a sense of freedom, community, beauty, or possibility. Some find it. Others, after a few years, begin to feel distant from the city they once imagined as home.
But when that distance appears, where does it come from?
Is it the city? Is it us? Is it the expectations we arrived with, the ways we participate, the communities we enter, or the relationships we build along the way?
For this edition of Dialogues, we want to move beyond the idea of Lisbon as something that either “delivers” or “doesn’t deliver.” Instead, we’ll explore belonging as a relationship: what we look for in a place, what we project onto it, what we receive from it, what we bring with us, and how we meet the life around us.
Together, we’ll talk about migration, attachment, restlessness, identity, community, roots, and the complex process of building a life somewhere — against the backdrop of a city that is also changing socially, culturally and economically.
The conversation will bring together people with different experiences of living in Lisbon over different timeline - exploring how our sense of belonging evolves over time and what shapes our relationship with the places we call home.
An honest conversation about place, introspection, migration, and the search for home.
