About this event
What to expect:
Unlocking Creativity is a writing workshop that invites us to explore using guided writing to unlock our creative impulses. The writing exercises can be prompted by images, themes, words, sounds, and will generate self-expression in prose. You can write in any creative form you like – fiction, non-fiction, or a combination of both. "Whatever happens in writing simply happens."
For Our Audience:
Have you always wanted to write but don’t know how or where to start? Perhaps you write already, but feel you would benefit from some guidance, or maybe you just want to experiment with writing in new and interesting ways, developing your practice in a nurturing environment that’s both playful and supportive. Whatever your writing goals are, and whatever your level of experience, from total newbie to seasoned journaller, Unlocking Creativity will give you tools and techniques to help spark your creative impulses and turn them into words – to start with nothing and finish with something! It will also help build confidence in the value of your unique and compelling voice. There will also be the opportunity to share what you’ve written in a supportive and trusting environment and to receive professional level feedback. No one will have to read their work if they don’t want to, though it is encouraged. Above all, Unlocking Creativity will be stimulating, inspiring, challenging, and fun!The workshop will be technology free. We can provide pens and paper, and/or you can bring your own writing materials – whichever makes you most comfortable. If, for reasons of access, you need to write on a device please let us know in advance.
Your host:
Dr. Michael Langan (he/him)Writer, Editor, Mentor, Writing Coach, Teacher.
Michael Langan has been teaching creative writing in a variety of contexts for over twenty years, including at two U.K. universities. He now works on a freelance basis as a writing mentor, editor, teacher, and manuscript assessor, and has a PhD in creative writing. Michael's first novel, Shadow is a Colour as Light Is, was published by LUME (U.K.) in 2020. His approach to teaching creative writing is a nurturing and holistic one and he strongly believes in the inherent value of everyone's individual and unique voice.
