What is The Passing Vessel?

The Passing Vessel is Sneferu’s signature workshop:
An immersive creative experience built around three acts:

RECEIVE:

In the first act, you will choose and receive a handmade ceramic vessel from a curated selection - glazed and decorated by guests from previous sessions.
Each vessel carries a small note from its maker, creating a fleeting connection across time and space.

CREATE:

In the second act of creation, you will become a master perfumer.
We will teach you the art and science of perfumery, and guide you as you create your own original fragrance and pour a bespoke scented candle.
While the wax sets, you’ll enjoy snacks and drinks in our magical private garden.

GIVE:

You will glaze a new porcelain vessel to leave behind for a future guest.

We provide all materials, glazes, and guidance.

At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own scented candle poured into a vessel once glazed by another, and pass on a vessel of your own.

This is Sneferu’s most personal, hands-on experience to date.
It offers a window into our handcrafted creation process, a chance to make something of your own, and a way to connect with guests from all over the world by leaving something meaningful behind.

Why This Is One of the Most Unique Ceramic Workshops in Porto

The Passing Vessel is special in many ways:
Here you will not focus on making a mug or a plate. This experience lets you explore the art of ceramics and high end perfumery, while forming a creative link between people who will most likely never meet.

It’s hands-on, creative and collaborative.

Frequently asked questions

What is The Passing Vessel workshop?

It’s a 2-hour creative experience where you choose a ceramic jar glazed by someone else, create your own scented candle in a ceramic vase to take home with you, and glaze a new jar to pass on.

Why is this workshop special?

Unlike a typical ceramic class, The Passing Vessel combines perfumery, candle-making, and personal storytelling. You’ll create your own fragrance blend, pour a candle with it, and join a shared tradition of artistic exchange.

Do I get to keep what I make?

Yes. You’ll take home a finished candle, poured into the jar you chose. The jar you glaze will be used by someone in a future workshop.

Do I need any experience in ceramics or perfumery?

Not at all! The workshop is designed for complete beginners. You’ll be guided at every stage.

What’s included in the price?

All materials, a personalized scented candle, a glazed porcelain jar for the next guest, and tea/snacks during the session.

How long does the workshop take?

The full experience lasts about 2 hours.

What if my candle isn’t ready by the end?

Normally this shouldn't be a problem. But if the wax needs more time to set, you can return later that day or the next - or arrange local pickup.

Where is the workshop held?

At Sneferu Atelier in Bonfim—Porto’s vibrant creative neighborhood, 10min from Rua Santa Catarina and 3min from Heroísmo metro station.

What languages do you speak?

We speak fluently English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Hebrew and a bit of everything else - let's get creative!

Can I come alone?

Yes, absolutely. The format is welcoming for solo guests, couples, and small groups alike.

Is it suitable for kids?

We recommend it for ages 12 and up due to tools and focus required.
