Faro’s Gardens Through Time
Discover how nature and history shaped the city
In collaboration with the University of the Algarve (UAlg), this guided walk invites you to explore Faro through its gardens — green spaces that reveal the city’s evolution across time.
Led by Professor Sónia Azambuja, an expert in garden history at UAlg, the tour uncovers how gardens and public spaces have influenced Faro’s identity and urban growth.
From the elegant 19th-century Jardim Manuel Bivar to the leafy Alameda João de Deus, and the distinctive gardens of Faro’s Modernist villas, each stop offers fascinating insights into the city’s past and the people who shaped it.
Along the way, the walk will also explore the Modernist period, when new architectural ideas and garden designs reflected a changing way of life — bringing a fresh vision of harmony between nature, form, and modern living.
Discover stories hidden in the shade of trees and behind geometric paths — a journey through time where architecture, culture, and nature meet, revealing how Faro’s spirit has blossomed alongside its gardens.
