On May 15th, Palestinians mark the Nakba, not as a memory sealed in the past, but as an open wound in the present.1948: Creation &amp; Catastrophe is a documentary that confronts the foundational violence of 1948: the forced displacement of Palestinians, the destruction of hundreds of villages, the uprooting of families from their homes, and the transformation of an entire people into refugees during the creation of the state of Israel.Through first hand testimonies, the film restores Palestinian voices to a history from which they have too often been erased. These are not abstract accounts of war or distant political events. They are memories of homes lost, cities emptied, villages destroyed, and lives permanently altered by dispossession.The film challenges dominant narratives that have attempted to justify, soften, or obscure the Nakba. It invites us to look directly at 1948 as a colonial rupture whose consequences continue to shape Palestinian life today, in exile, under occupation, in refugee camps, and in the ongoing struggle for return, justice, and liberation.Following the screening, directors and producers Ahlam Muhtaseb and Andy Trimlett will join us for a Q&amp;A and discussion on the Nakba, historical memory, and the political responsibility of bearing witness.This gathering is an invitation to listen, to remember, and to refuse erasure.All are welcome.Screening at 8:00 PM, followed by a Q&amp;A at 9:30 PM.A small fee of €5 will be charged to help the Casa cover its operational costs.
