We’re inviting you to be part of our new series of meetups dedicated to the online exhibitions we host on the platform. These gatherings will take place on Wonder, the online meeting platform that emulates the real world interconnections.At Art Curator Grid, we want to engage both key players from the art world and their audiences in fun and spontaneous exchanges! Join us to gather with curators, artists and institution staff who will first take you behind the scenes of their online exhibitions and introducing you to broader conversation topics. Be part of the exchanges, meet the artists, talk to the curators, mingle with other attendees: don’t be shy, we’ve missed meeting you! On this occasion, emerging painters Aliyah Alawadhi from the United Arab Emirates and Camila Cadogan from Paraguay will present their co-curated exhibition No sé si por cultura o seguridad. I portray softness mainly. an exhibition developed by cultural advocate Emilia Vieira Branco, based in Abu Dhabi. This showcase is part of Latitudinal Curation, a research project by UAE-based Paraguayan curator Daniel H. Rey.Rey and Vieira . I portray softness mainly. They explore experiences and imaginaries of womanhood and domestic concealment through 18 paintings in acrylic and oil. The showcase is part of Latitudinal Curation, a research project by UAE-based Paraguayan curator Daniel H. Rey. The exhibition is developed by cultural advocate Emilia Vieira Branco based in Abu Dhabi. No sé si por cultura o seguridad. An interactive online opening event ‘will take place on Monday, May 24th at 9pm UAE time in collaboration with virtual event platform Wonder.No sé si por cultura o seguridad. I portray softness mainly. is Aliyah Alawadhi’s first interaction with Latin American audiences, as well as Camila Cadogan's first overseas and online endeavor. For Alawadhi, “To reach out to an international audience, with the help of an artist that is also beloved back in her home, is to be able to disseminate ideas that are not commonly focused on when it comes to the UAE, or the Gulf or even SWANA; autonomy, love, nostalgia, feminism, resistance.” Similarly, Cadogan sees the collaboration as “an excellent opportunity to transcend borders.” She adds, “I am fascinated by the idea of being a channel for other countries to know what is being made in Paraguay, I think this can lead to a long-term connection between nations and their artists.” Alawadhi and Cadogan diversify the artistic narratives coming out of the UAE and Paraguay. Alawadhi highlights that “it was interesting to see the parallels in the spaces we work and the themes we deal with.” Cadogan comments that Alawadhi’s work “makes two worlds with totally different belief systems come together and contrast through her analytical and aesthetic criteria.” She further highlights “I am fascinated by Aliyah’s feminine vision of her culture.”The exhibition is part of Latitudinal Curation, a methodology proposed by Daniel H. Rey exploring the influence of geo-locations in artists’ work and themes. During the process, Alawadhi and Cadogan engaged in exercises that enabled them to co-curate. According to Alawadhi, “the exercises gave me insight into Camila’s artistic decisions and the motivation behind her work” and “helped me really create a connection with the works I did end up choosing”. For Cadogan “Curatorial guidance is key for this project” as it “provided me with a new criteria to select the works.” The entire exhibition process took place remotely. Cultural advocate Emilia Vieira Branco, who stepped in as Exhibition Developer, shares that “The translation between the artists’ imaginaries of womanhood was perhaps the main translation we worked with“. Vieira Branco adds “We used combinations of three verbal and non-verbal languages.”. The developer’s hope is that the audience “feels the artists presence and thinks of their intimate relationship with their own work. The artists are women thinking radically about womanhood, which is a brave thing to do”. Exhibition Conceiver Daniel H. Rey highlights that "Artistic exchanges across latitudes invites to propose new forms of accessibility, curation and the use of digital tools in bridging distance.”In collaboration with state-of-the-art platforms, the exhibition will be available online via Art Curator Grid, a user-friendly site for interactive exhibitions and archives. Art Curator Grid has partnered with Wonder, a virtual events application, to invite the artists and their team to launch the exhibition with a bilingual, interactive event. The digital premiere of ‘No sé si por cultura o seguridad. I portray softness mainly’ will take place on Monday, May 24th at 9pm (UAE) and 1pm (PY) via Wonder. The event is titled #LatitudinalCuration 25° North, South, and Needed’.
