Geometric Slab Ceramics | MASTERCLASS

Overview

Get ready to craft cool geometric ceramic pieces and level up your pottery game in this hands-on masterclass!

Geometric Ceramic MASTERCLASS

Join us for a fun and hands-on masterclass where you'll explore the art of creating stunning geometric slab ceramics. Whether you're a beginner or just looking to refine your skills, this session is perfect for you!

Where: R. da Madalena 80

Don’t miss out on this creative adventure—see you there!

IMPORTANT

For the full progrm, you should register to both 2 days

WHAT TO EXPECT

I’ve designed this workshop to be accessible to beginners, with a clear structure so no one falls behind. We will focus on precision, control, and understanding how form is constructed step by step.

WHAT YOU WILL GAIN

I will guide you through building geometric ceramic forms using a method you can continue developing on your own. By the end, you will complete one or two pieces and leave with a solid understanding of the process.

PROCESS

We will move from fundamental slab techniques to working with modular systems and composition. Each session builds on the previous one, leading to a final piece shaped through careful decisions and refinement.

Day 1 — Foundations of Form (2h)

  • Introduction to slab techniques (rolling, thickness control, drying stages)
  • Precision basics: cutting clean edges, joining slabs
  • Geometry fundamentals:
  • planes, angles, symmetry
  • Exercise:
→ build simple geometric forms (cube, prism)

Structure & Systems (2h)

  • Reinforcement techniques (prevent collapse/warping)
  • Working with templates & repeatable units
  • Introduction to modular thinking
  • Exercise:
→ create repeatable geometric units (tiles, interlocking forms)

Day 2 — Composition & Personal Language (2h)

  • Moving from unit → composition
  • Relief vs volumetric structures
  • Surface approaches (minimal textures, carving, marks)

Exercise:
→ design and begin a final piece

  • wall-based OR sculptural

— Finalization & Refinement (2h)

  • Finishing techniques (edges, smoothing, corrections)
  • Discussion of drying & firing (you can fire later)
  • Group critique (this adds serious value)

Optional:

  • simple slip / oxide application
