Fable's Birthday Party!

You're invited to Fable's Second Birthday party! 💌

Unbelievable it's been two years already! When I first visited Fable's location back in March 2023, I can only describe the vibe it gave me as a dungeon. Really! It was dark, brimming with an uncomfortable amount of dead plants, and even came equipped with a hay bale and old mattress in what would one day become our bookshop. There were dirty dishes in the (bathroom?!) sink left from a previous tenant, and the entire place looked like a once-functioning bar from years gone by that someone quickly abandoned during an apocalypse. You might be surprised to hear this, but I have to say:

It was love at first sight.

I relish in places that are imperfect, neglected, and in dire need of some TLC. What a gift it is to take a space that was once unloved and turn it into a place of beauty and devotion.

After a few months of renovations, menu creation, hiring our incredible staff, ordering books, and some costly mistakes, Fable opened its doors in late October 2023.

Since then...

We've served healthy meals and drinks to thousands of humans (and dogs!) in Lisbon, including our community favorites like our Slow Roasted Tomato + Red Pepper Soup and our Cacao Coconut Smoothie. 🍽

We've sold countless books ranging in topics from the latest Sally Rooney phenomenen to the teachings of Bell Hooks to a book about the anthropology of butts. Yep! 📚🍑

We've hosted over 100(!) community events, like our carefree summer parties and pop-up markets, open mic nights, and jam-packed weekly writing hours. 🫶🏼

We've taken 70 polaroids of the pups that have come into our shop (and counting!) for our Floof Hall of Fame. 🐶

We've garnered over 105 five-star reviews on Google, with an average rating of 4.9 stars. 🥹

But it hasn't ✨all ✨been pretty.

We had a host of electrical problems in the early months that caused our power to go out up to 10 times a day (we're living large with a new electrical system now!).

We've sweated our butts off downstairs during hot and humid summer events (praise be, our birthday gift to ourselves is a functioning AC...which should be ready just in time for our birthday party, huzzah!).

We've experimented with failed events that no one attended. Womp.

We've broken dishes, spilled plenty of food (mostly on ourselves), weathered through an unexpected flood from ✨ancient pipes,✨ and so much more.

We've adapted, changed, and grown relentlessly this past year. And thankfully, we're just getting started.

So, come celebrate with us on Sunday, October 26th. Fable would be nothing without our community and neighborhood. Our goal has always been to create a space for connection, where people can gather and belong. We'd love to host you with an epic, fun party like no other we've had before. Let the good vibes roll!

What we've got in store for you:

• Natural Wine Discounts / We've selected some of our favorite natural wines from Portuguese producers, like Ciclo, Cortinha Velha, Cortes de Cima, and more, and we're offering discounts on all of them! We've got all the hits on deck for you to try (rosé, pet nat, orange, white, etc!). We'll also have plenty of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and food, too. Come hungry and thirsty. :)

• Curated Selection of Books in English / What better way to enjoy the warm summer weather than to sit on a bench in the sun while you get lost in a great book? We've got a fresh batch of books at Fable and we're curating some of our favorites just for the occasion.
