Challenging Data for Zero Hunger

About this Event

EUREKATHON is a data-driven competition that addresses societal issues associated with sustainable development goals. In this 2nd edition, you are challenged to develop concrete and creative solutions that contribute to maximize access by all people to sufficient food all year round, in partnership with Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome.

Due to the pandemic’s restrictions, the 2020 edition of Eurekathon will be a hybrid event. The main competition will take place from the 5th to the 7th of November, on a virtual platform, fully customized for this event. The final will take place as a physical event, if possible, on the 14th of November.

The competition will be amongst teams of 4-6 members who will work side-by-side with like-minded data scientists and business analysts.

Registration can be done individually or as a team. The registration of a Team requires:

  • The definition of its name. In the case the Team is being created as a representative of an association, community or university, the format “TeamName@Affiliation” should be used (e.g., TeamName@CommunityName). If this is not applicable, the format “TeamName” is enough.
  • The determination and announcement of a representative (by default the representative is the team member who submits the application).
  • After the form is completed, the team leader should share the registration link and the name of the team with other team's members, so they can also apply, choosing the option "as a team member";
  • After the registration, all the team members will receive an e-mail to confirm the application;

If you apply as an individual participant, later the Organizers will form Teams from the individual registrations. The creation of the Teams will follow a criterion of diversity (e.g., experience, background).

Be aware that the number of registrations is limited. The selection of Teams will be done considering the following criteria: (i) fit between the background of the Team and the competition goals; (ii) professional/academic experience; (iii) motivation; (iv) past experience in hackathons or other challenge’s events. This information will be obtained from the data provided during the registration;

After the selection process, all the team members will receive an e-mail to communicate the verdict on the application (either the Team is selected or not).
