More info about this month's book:

Benny Oh is a fourteen-year-old boy whose world changes forever after the sudden death of his beloved father. Benny begins to hear voices..not from people, but from the objects around him. The shoes in the closet whisper anxiously, teacups chatter and books call him from the shelves. Some voices are comforting, others overwhelming and soon Benny must learn how to navigate a world that will not stay silent. His mother, Annabelle, spirals into grief and compulsive hoarding, while Benny seeks refuge in a library, a place of quiet and possibility. There he meets a daring performance artist and the library’s talking books seem to hold the wisdom he longs for. Among them he also encounters a homeless philosopher-poet, who encourages him to ask deeper questions and begin to find his own voice amidst the many.

In The Book of Form and Emptiness, Ruth Ozeki offers a moving reflection on loss, creativity and the unusual ways we learn to listen to the world and to ourselves. Is Benny losing his mind, or has he discovered a new way of seeing? Can the voices of ordinary objects help us understand what it means to be human? With warmth, humor and clarity, Ozeki tells a story that is both heart-breaking and hopeful. It’s a story about resilience, imagination and connection. After reading it, you will understand why Ruth Ozeki is one of the most original amd compassionate voices in contemporary fiction today.
