Collage Takeover
This session takes over the project space PLAY(THE UNDER)GROUND inside Picoas metro station, to engage passers in collage making
Collage Working Club, a weekly open workspace for collage enthusiasts, is taking over the project space PLAY(THE UNDER)GROUND inside Picoas metro station, to engage passers by in the redefinition of image making.
“Collage goes beyond being a procedure or a concept. It stands as a gesture, and it places us in the field of action” – Blanca Ortiga.
As a ‘copy and paste’ medium, collage has never been more relevant than in today’s image-saturated society. A gesture of exploring new ways of re-imagining our surroundings and making strange what is familiar.
This is an invitation to daily commuters, residents, visitors, artists, and anyone who wishes to interact with this liminal space in an open-ended participatory collage installation that will unfold throughout the day. As in collage, the process here is undefined, with no clear end results. Through this action we will explore how collage belongs within us, and how its nature can be understood.
We will occupy the space between 11am to 7pm and welcome anyone who is interested to drop in, add to the installation, get to know more about what we do or take a collage kit home. Bring a friend or come alone, even if there is only 10 minutes to spare.
The project space PLAY(THE UNDER)GROUND is an open studio which seeks to explore incremental relationships between a commercial plot at Picoas Metro station and the artistic territory that mais uno +1 collective encourage.

Collage Working Club (CWC) is a weekly open workspace for artists working in the medium of paper. Organised in the format of alternate ‘drop in’ sessions and workshops masterclasses, it has both a regular facilitator, whilst also involving the artist community in the sharing of knowledge and skills. Providing materials, education and connections is the primary aim of CWC, and it will do this through the interdisciplinary art of collage as both an art form and a tool for personal growth.
