Overview

2-hour charcoal workshop with Ale D’Afrique—create your own poster, explore techniques, and leave with a finished A4 artwork.

A 2-hour charcoal workshop focused on creating your own poster from start to finish.

This session is designed to guide you through working with charcoal in a simple, direct way. Exploring mark-making, texture, and composition while building a finished piece.

The focus is on process over perfection. You don’t need prior experience, just curiosity and a willingness to explore.

By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a completed artwork that you can take home, display, or develop further into a print.

What’s included:

– All materials (charcoal, paper, tools)
– Guided exercises and support throughout
– A finished A4 artwork to take home
– Optional print available for your final piece

Who is this for:
– Beginners curious about drawing
– Creatives looking to reconnect with making
– Anyone interested in working with charcoal in a relaxed, structured setting

Ale D’Afrique is a Lisbon-based visual artist of Angolan descent. Working primarily with charcoal, ink, and dry pastel, his practice explores memory, family, and identity. Focusing on how the spaces we grow up in shape who we become. His work often centers on intimate, figurative scenes that hold tension between closeness and distance, presence and silence.

Drawing from oral storytelling traditions, his images function as fragments of lived experience rather than fixed narratives. Through layered textures and open-ended compositions, he creates space for reflection on belonging, inheritance, and the emotional weight carried within family structures. His recent work extends into performance and multimedia, continuing his interest in how these stories can be shared and experienced beyond the image.
