International talent, Catherine Ma, will be performing a program of Beethoven, Chopin, Gershwin, and Hiromi, as her first concert with Porto Pianofest.

This is Porto Pianofest’s second year of the prestigious Artists-in-Residency series, aimed at young pianists who come to Porto to prepare for future projects— recitals, competitions, recordings— to work with artist faculty and present their music to PPF’s audience.

O talento internacional Catherine Ma apresentará um programa com Beethoven, Chopin, Gershwin e Hiromi, no seu primeiro concerto no Porto Pianofest.

Esta é a segunda edição da prestigiada série de Residências Artísticas do festival direcionadas a jovens pianistas que se deslocam ao Porto na preparação de projectos futuros - recitais, competições e gravações - num trabalho conjunto com o corpo docente do festival e apresentação da sua música ao público do Porto Pianofest.

BIO:

Described as “an exceptionally mature performer,” (Ontario Arts Review) with “sheer pianistic power and accuracy …, unrelenting force and high-wire intensity.” (South Florida Classical Review), Catherine Ma has been performing internationally since her Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 14. Catherine began playing the piano at the age of 5 under the tutelage of Mrs. Mei Zhi Bi, and competed and won her first competition the same year. She started competing nationally and won 1st place at the Canadian Music Competition at the age of 7, and the following year, became the youngest scholarship student at the Young Artists Performance Academy at the Royal Conservatory of Music, with Prof. Marietta Orlov. She has also studied with Prof. Peter Longworth, Prof. Alexander Korsantia, and has played in numerous masterclasses for Prof. Roland Krüger, Mr. Ronan O’Hora, Mrs. Eliso Virsaladze, Mr. Boris Zarankin, Mr. Ilya Itin, and many others.She has won numerous awards and competitions, most recently; 1st place at the Tkaczewski International Piano Competition, 2nd place at the Paderewski International Piano Competition, 2nd place at the Sixth Camerata Artists International Competition, 1st place at the PianoHouse International Piano Competition and 1st place at the Bremen International Piano Competition.In addition to being an active performing artist, Catherine has been an ambassador for the Musician’s Dream Aid Foundation since 2016, and the Canada International Piano Competition since 2021.She completed her Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance under the tutelage of Prof. Julian Martin at the Juilliard School.
