About this event
HAS – hinterland architecture studio announces the international conference "BUILD, from high to low tech” in order to promote new design and construction approaches that demonstrate how the environment impact of buildings can be reduced applying existing technology. The event will take place in Porto, Portugal on February 3rd, 4th and 5th 2022.
The building industry has a significant impact on the environment and without great transformations on both design strategies and building techniques the world climate ambitions will be compromised. According to the World Green Building Council, building and construction are responsible for 39% of all carbon emissions in the world.
To address this problem there are two distinct paths that must be considered as complementary tools instead of the opposite fields of the same discussion. New technologies of digital fabrication, digital design and AI can be accompanied by ancient sustainable construction techniques such as rammed earth, bamboo and hemp fiber. The event, open to the public on site and with complete online live streaming, will be an opportunity to reunite world renowned designers and learn how high-quality architecture can mitigate the impacts of climate change and deal with the industry evolution.
With confirmed participants such as Kengo Kuma & Associates from Japan, Ecologic Studio from UK, Wael al Awar from Dubai, Lin Lifeng from China, Mínimo Común from Paraguay and Yasmeen Lari from Pakistan there will be a broad and diverse approach to this universal challenge.
