This 6-hour beginner/medium level workshop is structured in two 3-hour sessions.The workshop explores experimental human-computer interactions using the body as an interface. Participants will be introduced to the machine learning library ML5, working within p5js (the Javascript version of processing).The workshop will start by approaching basic examples of using hands, body, and face as interfaces and then explore how the augmented body can be used as a tool for audiovisual creation.Participants will create a project using body interaction to be considered to be exhibited during the <a href="https://pcd.fba.up.pt/2024/" title="https://pcd.fba.up.pt/2024/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Processing Community Day 2024: https://pcd.fba.up.pt/2024/</a> WHEN AND WHEREThursday 8, and Thursday 15 February 2024 (from 14:00 to 17:00 GMT)In-Person, at FBAUP, Room PS12 The workshop activities will be held in Portuguese language WORKSHOP PROGRAMDay 1:Introduction to Body Interaction Brief historical review of body interaction in digital arts; Introduction to p5js through the web editor (<a href="http://editor.p5js.org" title="http://editor.p5js.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">editor.p5js.org</a>);The ML5 - Machine Learning library; Code examples for body, face, and hands interaction; Day 2:Projects assistance and follow-up to Participants’ projects. REQUIREMENTS<ul><li>Participants must have introductory knowledge in Processing, p5.j or other coding languages;</li><li>Participants must have access to a personal computer with an internet connection;</li><li>The p5.js online editor we will use is free and available at <a href="https://editor.p5js.org/" title="https://editor.p5js.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://editor.p5js.org/</a>. Although it is not required, we recommend that participants create an account on the platform;</li></ul> REGISTRATIONTo support all students within the workshop curriculum, the registration is limited to 15 participants. Registration will be managed exclusively through Eventbrite.A waiting list will be set up if more participants than available slots are interested. We ask participants who are unable to attend to cancel their registration on Eventbrite so that the system can allow those on the waiting list to register and attend. Participation in all activities is free, but registration is required. InstructorRodrigo Carvalho (FBAUP/ID+) is a designer &amp; new media artist from Porto/Portugal, Phd in Digital Media (U. Porto/UT Austin Colab, 2018). His work on live visuals, coding, and interactive art involves a wide range of different outputs, from screen digital work, interactive installations, audiovisual live acts, or interactive visuals for stage performances.
