The Westway LAB Showcase Festival and Conference, heading to its 7th edition in 2020, has always had the motto "Process, Thought & Product".
The process is a creative one, as the festival actually kicks off at the Creation Centre of Candoso with the artist residencies: Portuguese artists co-creating freely with other European artists they meet for the first time, leading to absolutely unique musical experiments presented live for the very first time at the festival.
The thoughts are business ones: the Westway PRO conference regularly features top keynote speakers (past names include Peter Jenner, Keith Harris, Charles Caldas, Tom Silverman, Helen Smith, Fruzsina Szep, Peter Smidt) and cutting edge conferences on digital music, synch, live music, festival networkings, artist and management development as well as special focuses on export via the WHY Portugal Event.
Finally, the "products" are great: besides the absolutely unique experiences via the artist residency showcases, there are ETEP showcases, INES showcases, city showcases with local artists, headline concerts and other surprises!
Westway LAB is about to launch a new episode of this big and surprising adventure, bringing together once again the public, artists and professionals from the music industry, all in Guimarães, a city in continuous transformation motivated by creation and thought.
With its 6th edition of Westway LAB in 2019, musical notes came to life in Guimarães in the form of 29 concerts, 14 conferences, 2 keynotes, 2 workshops, 3 networking sessions, 20 European export offices, 2 Talks and 4 artist residencies, with over 200 PRO delegates in attendance at the first international music conference to take place in Portugal.
The Vila Flor Cultural Center (CCVF) was the epicenter of an energy that spread to the city throughout the four days of this music event, affirming Westway LAB as an international territory of creation and export, knowledge, sharing, networking and enjoyment in the musical universe, which extends and widens its bridges, from its ETEP and INES Creative Europe projects to oversees country focus (2019 was Canada) internationalizing European Music.
See you in Spring for the next adventure!
