Probably one of the most entertaining comedies from the silent film era, and a great introduction to Keaton's unique comedic genius. Whether you're revisiting this timeless gem or watching it for the first time, you're in for a treat.
About the film:
The General is an American silent comedy film, starring and directed by comedian Buster Keaton. Taking inspiration from a real event, Keaton's most ambitious and stunning production is also one of the warmest, bringing together a boy, a girl and a train amid the turmoil of the US Civil War.

Since 2020, Curious Monkey Film Club has been a gathering place for thoughtful film fans with an eye for detail and a love of storytelling. We don’t just watch films - we unpack them, explore them, and ask what they still have to say to us today. Our selections span genres and eras, chosen not by popularity but for their enduring craft and intrigue.
Film Timings:
6:00pm - Arrive early to grab a drink, browse the bookshore and line up for entry.
6:30pm - Entrance opens and film starts promptly. Limited seats. First come, first serve!
Post-film discussion: ~20 minutes

This is a donation-based event to support the continuation of the Curious Monkey Film Club. Registration is free, but mandatory. The space has limited capacity, registration does not guarantee entry. When the space is full we will not allow more to enter. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Chairs are first come, first serve but we also have plenty of standing and floor seating space available.
