-------

Introduction

Throughout the entire day, combining the latest digital techniques (Participants’ cameras) with the “ex libris” of analog techniques (Large Format Camera + step-by-step development), we will photograph a Model in a studio, merging both types of image-making.

Carlos Loff leads the Digital Studio process, promoting Photography as a process of refining lighting and poses.

Pedro Gil leads the Analog Studio process, following the digital tests, promoting Large Format Analog Photography, and then involving Participants in the hands-on development process, step by step, until we obtain our unique and final “Plate.”

The analog camera we will use is a Sinar F 4x5 Large Format (see photo in the gallery below).

Celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the Invention of Photography

Although there is some debate between 1826/27, the most credible sources indicate that the inventor of Photography — Nicéphore Niépce — presented the first image on a permanent support in 1826 (View from the Window at Le Gras). The image shows parts of buildings and the rural landscape surrounding his estate, Le Gras, seen from a high window.

The image was created through heliography, a process Niépce had invented around 1822, which uses the light-hardening of bitumen to record an image after the removal of the remaining unhardened material.
