Whether you're a professional barista or just a coffee lover who enjoys exploring new recipes and methods with your favorite V60, this is your chance to showcase your experiments to the coffee community!

The V60 Cup is a fun event sponsored by Hario Europe that aims to promote the exchange of experiences, create connections and strengthen the specialty coffee culture in Portugal.

Competitors will face each other in four qualifying rounds, with the four best recipes going to the final.

The judging panel will be composed of a professional barista, a roasting master, a coffee lover and a popular vote of the participants of the event.

ORGANIZATION:

This event is promoted by Sargento Martinho, hosted by WOW Coffee Roasters and sponsored by Hario Europe.

It will take place on the 21/05/2022 at 11:00, at the WOW Lab located at Rua António Pereira da Cunha, 2A, Barcarena - Oeiras.

THE RULES:

RULE #1

All competitors must bring their own genuine Hario V60 to the competition, which can be any variation of this dripper (https://www.hario-europe.com/collections/v60-dripper). No other brewer may be used in the competition.

RULE #2

Aftermarket accessories may not be used to assist in the brewing process.

RULE #3

Any type of filter is allowed, so long as it does not replace the filter holder itself (the V60 dripper). The filter can be made out of paper, metal, cloth, or any other material.

The original Hario white paper filter will be offered at the event, in sizes 01 and 02.

RULE #4

All competitors will use the same coffee and will receive for training purposes a 250g package at the time of registration. The official coffee of the competition will be the Bensa Logita, from Ethiopia, provided by Sargento Martinho - Torrefatora Lisboeta.

RULE #5

Competitors will not be allowed to bring their own water.

The water for the competition will be the Caldas de Penacova, and if you want to train with this water, you can buy it in the main supermarkets in Portugal.

RULE #6

Ground coffee and water are the only ingredients allowed. The proportion between these is up to you!

RULE #7

Competitors must prepare a minimum of 200ml of brewed coffee.

RULE #8

Coffees not presented within the time limit of 5 minutes will not be evaluated.

RULE #9

Competitors are allowed to bring their own grinder, either manual or electric.

RULE #10

Failure to comply with any of the above may result in disqualification.

THE FORMAT:

The competition is a four-round, elimination tournament.

In each round, three competitors brew coffee simultaneously.

Competitors have 5 minutes in which to prepare, brew, and present their coffee (coffee can be ground in advance).

When the time is up, the coffees are presented in four identical vessels to a panel of three official judges and a representative of the participants of the event chosen at random each round.

The judges blindly evaluate each coffee and make their own private assessment as to which is the best.

On the count of three, all judges simultaneously point to their preferred coffee.

The winner progresses to the final. The losers are eliminated.

JUDGING:

Each round is judged blindly by four judges, including a professional barista, a roasting master, a coffee lover and a representative of the event's participants.

Competitors' names will be marked on the bottom of the cups, where they are completely hidden.

There is no formal judgment criteria. The judges will only have to choose which coffee they would like to drink the whole cup.

Each judge will come to their own conclusion without discussing the samples.

On the count of three, all judges must simultaneously lift the plate with the sample number of their choice.

After judging, the name of the winner of the round will be presented.

THE PRIZES:

All competitors will receive a participation prize offered by Hario Europe.
